Victorinox Rescue Tool
I am often asked what knife I use for my emergency preparedness kit and for a few years it would change whenever I got a new knife, but I always found myself going back to one. The Victorinox Rescue Tool.
Developed and perfected following a five-year project in cooperation with emergency medical and rescue services, the key functions of this pocket tool can be opened in seconds and are ready for use immediately. All tools that have to be available quickly can be opened wearing gloves and are suitable for both right-handed and left-handed users. The one-handed blade and strong screwdriver (crate opener) are fixed in position when open thanks to the liner lock mechanism.
Each part has been subjected to a number stringent tests; particularly the new window breaker and disc saw tools, which are easy to replace as they would be subjected to wear and tear when in use. While the rounded belt cutter can be used to cut through seatbelts safely. The Victorinox Rescue Tool includes the most important functions for freeing someone trapped in a car.
The look of the RescueTool, with its luminescent yellow grip shells, is something special. It is also supplied with a bright red/yellow nylon case that has a wide belt loop that fits a range of belt sizes.

Making a Bushcraft Knife – Part 1
In December 2012 I received a piece of 01 tool steel large enough to make a bushcraft knife, I had put handles onto knife blanks before. But never had I made a blade from stock, I had tried to make the knife from the film “The Hunted” once using some scrap on a welding course at college about 10 years ago. It was never going to be much as it was too small a piece of steel and I didn’t have the right tools or any knowledge about knife making, I now have enough knowledge to make an attempt and have access to the tools required to make a completed knife.
I am using the guide and templates from SWC to make my knife and I think I have chosen the knife I want to go with, I have transferred the template to the steel and will wait a few days to make sure I am happy with the design before continuing.
