Being able to start a fire quickly when needed can be very important, in a survival situation it might even be a matter of life and death. Do you carry a method of fire lighting with you? If you do its most likely a fire steel.
The Primus Fire Ignition Steel is not only an effective way to start a fire or stove it is a great value ferrocium rod, ideal if you want the most sparks for your buck.
The rod and striker are held together on a loop of elastic, I found that this loop was too small to get the striker into a position I felt produced the most sparks. I will be replacing this with some paracord or a larger loop of elastic in the future
Like many of the other fire steels on the market the primus fire ignition steel gives off a shower of sparks of around 3000C giving you a safe, reliable shower of sparks when needed.
Available in 3 different sizes – Producing between 3000 and 10,000 strikes depending on the size. A suitable alternative to a Light My Fire fire steel and will give the same quality of sparks. With the modification of replacing the small loop in will be a 10, however straight out of the box it rates a 7 out of 10.
